Assisting in Major Firefighting – Birzebbugia

On 2nd August 2015, the St John Rescue Corps Fire Team was deployed to support the Civil Protection Department (CPD) in battling a large-scale blaze that broke out at a scrapyard in Ta’ Harbat, on the outskirts of Birżebbuġa.

The fire, which quickly spread through piles of flammable materials, required a coordinated emergency response to bring it under control. SJRC’s trained firefighting volunteers joined CPD personnel on site, contributing their expertise, equipment, and manpower to contain and extinguish the flames.

Following the successful operation, Mr John Rizzo,as Head of the Civil Protection Department, publicly commended the Corps’ members for their skill, bravery, and unwavering commitment in the face of a dangerous and demanding emergency situation.

This emergency duty underscores the critical role of volunteer responders in Malta’s national emergency framework and reflects the St John Rescue Corps’ dedication to protecting life, property, and the environment during high-risk incidents.
